Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first child Saturday (Jan. 7) at NYC's Lenox Hill Hospital, and named their daughter Blue Ivy.
The baby name has many people wondering just how the couple came up with such an unusual moniker for their baby girl.
While no one has heard from the new parents about how they chose that name, fans of Jay-Z have known that blue has long been a favorite color of the singer. Jay-Z has released three beloved Blueprint albums in 2001, 2002 and 2009.
And as for 'Ivy' - speculation is that Beyonce chose that name for her daughter as it reportedly references the Roman numeral ("IV") for 4 -- a significant digit for both Beyonce and Jay-Z: Beyonce's birthday is Sept. 4, Jay-Z's is Dec. 4, they were married on April 4, 2008, and the singer's latest album is entitled 4.
