Nancy Kerrigan has made sure to introduce her kids early on to the fun of ice-skating. The two-time Olympic medalist says her daughter, 3 1/2 year old Nicole, first put on her ice-skating shoes when she was just 14 months old.
Kerrigan, who is also mom to sons Matthew, 16, and Brian, 6½, says her kids enjoy ice-skating and need no tips from their famous ice-skating mom:
“They all like going skating and they definitely like people clapping for them,” explains Kerrigan. “They say, ‘Watch me’ and I try to give them tips, but they don’t necessarily listen to me.”
And as for Nicole, who happily wears her big brothers' hand-me down black skates, Nancy explains that the toddler is more excited these days about costume changes — Snow White and Cinderella — than she is in doing leaps and twirls on the ice, but Kerrigan, 42, adds, she’s open to her daughter choosing the demanding sport in the future:
“If that’s what she wants to do, I’m happy to help her,” notes the skater, although she admits it may not be that easy.
